A very good option for European businesses that want email, SMS and a lightweight CRM in one tool at a contained price, though the jump to the Professional plan is steep and several ecommerce features only arrive from there.

Brevo (formerly known as Sendinblue) is one of the most cited all-in-one marketing platforms in the European SMB segment, alongside names like Mailchimp or Moosend. This review combines public product documentation (official site, pricing table) with verified user reviews on G2 and Capterra.

What Brevo is and who it’s for

Brevo is a marketing and sales platform that combines email marketing, SMS, WhatsApp, live chat, forms, landing pages and a basic sales CRM in a single account. It’s aimed mainly at small and medium European businesses looking to centralize several communication channels without contracting several separate tools, and that value having their data hosted on EU servers.

A different pricing model: by sends, not contacts

Unlike most of its competitors (Mailchimp, Moosend, ActiveCampaign), Brevo bills mainly based on the volume of emails sent per month, not the number of stored contacts. This can be very advantageous for businesses with a large database that send moderately, and less competitive for those sending frequent newsletters to large lists. Since late 2025, entry plans also apply strict contact limits (500 on Starter, 1,500 on Standard), worth checking before signing up if your list is already large.

What it’s like to use day to day

The campaign editor and automation builder follow the same visual drag-and-drop paradigm as the rest of the category, with a low learning curve. The free plan includes the sales CRM and live chat by default, unusual among entry-level email marketing platforms, which normally reserve these features for paid plans. Behavior-based automation (welcome, abandoned cart) is available from the free plan, though limited to 2,000 active contacts until you upgrade.

Real user reviews

Brevo has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 on G2 (over 2,700 reviews) and 4.4 out of 5 on Capterra, with G2 Leader badges in the Email Marketing and Email Template Builder categories. Users consistently highlight value for money, ease of use and having email, SMS and CRM in one account. Criticism concentrates on the price jump to the Professional plan and the complexity of calculating total cost when combining pay-as-you-go SMS and WhatsApp.

On other review platforms the picture is more nuanced. On GetApp, Brevo maintains a high rating of 4.6 out of 5 across around 3,500 reviews, with the same praise for templates and ease of use. On Trustpilot, however, the score drops to 4.0 out of 5 (TrustScore) across more than 7,200 reviews, a much larger volume than G2 or Capterra and with a different complaint pattern: several users report sudden account suspensions with little explanation, support responses perceived as generic or automated, and notable price increases for long-standing accounts. It’s worth qualifying this with Trustpilot’s usual bias: people who suffer an account block or an unexpected price increase have much more incentive to leave a public review than the majority of users who simply keep using the product without incident, so it’s reasonable that this platform concentrates more complaints than G2 or Capterra. Even so, the volume and consistency of reports about account suspensions is high enough to recommend carefully reviewing list-validation policies before migrating a large contact base to Brevo.

What’s new in 2026: Brevo bets on AI for sales and automation

During 2026 Brevo notably expanded its artificial intelligence features. The AI Automation Builder generates a complete automation flow (trigger, steps and conditional branches) from a natural-language description, including only the actions available on the contracted plan. In the sales CRM, the Aura feature summarizes conversations, suggests next steps and drafts email or chat replies, complemented by contact-attribute autocomplete and a predictive “conversion probability” score (Predictive Lead Scoring) calculated from each contact’s interaction history. Brevo has also added AI-assisted send-time optimization and natural-language analytics dashboards for subaccounts. These features are still in gradual rollout depending on the plan, but they mark a clear push to bring Brevo closer to pricier platforms in terms of automation depth.

Frequently asked questions

Does Brevo have a forever-free plan? Yes. The free plan allows storing up to 100,000 contacts, though it limits sending to around 300 emails a day.

Does Brevo’s CRM replace a dedicated CRM? It covers the basics (pipeline, contacts, opportunity tracking) for free, but for more advanced sales needs it’s worth evaluating a specialized CRM.

How much does it cost to send SMS or WhatsApp with Brevo? They’re billed separately via credits: SMS starts at approximately $1.09 per 100 messages, and WhatsApp is only available from the Professional plan plus a variable cost per session message.

Why is there such a big price difference between Standard and Professional? The Professional plan multiplies the allowed send volume and adds ecommerce features (pop-ups, contact scoring, AI recommendations) and WhatsApp, which justifies part of the jump, though it remains an abrupt change compared with the progression of other plans.

👍 Pros
  • A genuinely usable free plan, with up to 100,000 stored contacts (though with a daily send limit)
  • Priced by send volume rather than list size, advantageous for large contact bases with moderate sending
  • Sales CRM (Brevo Sales) and live chat included at no extra cost on the free plan
  • Strong, consistent rating on G2 (4.5/5, over 2,700 reviews) and Capterra (4.4/5)
  • EU-based servers and native GDPR compliance, relevant for Spanish businesses
  • Combines email, SMS and WhatsApp on the same platform without relying on external integrations
👎 Cons
  • A considerable price jump between the Standard and Professional plans (ecommerce and WhatsApp features are reserved for the latter)
  • Since late 2025, entry plans have strict contact limits (Starter 500, Standard 1,500), which may force an earlier upgrade than expected
  • Automations on the free and Starter plans are limited to 2,000 contacts
  • The included CRM is functional but basic compared with a dedicated CRM
  • SMS and WhatsApp are billed separately via credits, complicating total monthly cost calculations
  • On Trustpilot (4.0/5 across more than 7,200 reviews), reports of account suspensions with little explanation recur, a pattern worth considering before migrating a large list
