Editorial methodology

This page explains how we work on our digital product audits section, so you can weigh each review we publish with the right context.

How we select products

We choose digital products that matter to people working in product, marketing or project management: tools we've used, that have been recommended to us, or that come up repeatedly in our audience's searches. Some affiliate relationships can influence which products we prioritize reviewing, but never the content of the verdict.

What an audit in this section means

Every product audit documents: what the product does, who it's for, its main features, indicative pricing, pros, limitations and alternatives. Not every audit has the same depth: we say so explicitly through an editorial status.

Editorial statuses

  • Initial research: a first pass gathering public information about the product.
  • Documented audit: analysis based on public documentation, the official website and vendor materials, without extensive hands-on testing on our part.
  • Tested: our editorial team has used the product hands-on before publishing the review.
  • Partial trial: we've tested part of the product, not all of its features.
  • Verified with provider: the provider has reviewed the objective data (pricing, features) in the analysis.
  • Pending update: the analysis may contain outdated information and is due for review.
  • Archived: the product or the information is no longer current; kept for historical reference.

We never claim to have tested a product hands-on if we haven't: each page's editorial status says so.

How we score (when we score)

We only publish a score when we have a scoring methodology applied consistently across comparable products, with concrete dimensions (for example: ease of use, functionality, value for money, support). If we haven't applied that methodology to a specific product, we publish an editorial verdict without a numeric score, rather than making one up.

Relationship with affiliation

Some of the products we review have an affiliate relationship with Product Auditors: if you sign up for the product through our link, we may earn a commission. This relationship does not determine the verdict: you can read the details in our affiliate policy.

How reviews are updated

Every audit shows its last review date and, when applicable, the date we last checked the price. A product's pricing and features can change: if you spot outdated information, you can let us know.

How a vendor can get in touch

If you're responsible for a product we've reviewed and spot an error, or want to suggest an update to objective data (pricing, features), you can write to us through the contact form, selecting "Correct product information" as the reason.
